Membership Levels and Entry Requirements
IAAP offers three main membership levels, each designed to reflect a different stage of professional development. Your route depends on your qualifications, experience, and current level of responsibility.
Entry Level
Associate Member (AIAAP)
Designed for early-career accounting practitioners who are building their professional foundation.
Typical Entry Routes
Meet at least one recognised route to entry.
Recognised Diploma in Accounting or Finance at RQF Level 4, or an equivalent study route.
Completion of Year 1 of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is also accepted.
Recognised entry-level qualifications such as LCCI Level 3, IAB Level 3, or equivalent international qualifications.
Minimum 2 years relevant experience in accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, tax or audit support, or finance operations.
Must comply with IAAP’s Professional Code of Ethics & Conduct.
Professional Level
Member (MIAAP)
For competent and experienced accounting professionals ready for full professional recognition.
Typical Entry Routes
Must meet both qualification and experience requirements.
Advanced Diploma in Accounting or Finance at RQF Level 5, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
Partial completion of recognised professional qualifications is also accepted where applicable.
Minimum 4 years verified experience.
Competence in at least 3 areas such as financial accounting, management accounting, audit, taxation, reporting and compliance, payroll, internal controls and governance, or costing and analysis.
No disciplinary issues and demonstrated ethical behaviour.
Senior Level
Fellow Member (FIAAP)
For senior experts, leaders, and distinguished contributors to the profession.
Typical Entry Routes
Must meet all criteria.
Recognised Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field is required.
Accepted senior professional qualifications include IFAC member body routes such as ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, CPA Australia, CAANZ, HKICPA, MICPA, SAICA, or CPA Canada.
IAAP also accepts IAAP ICPA, ICPA Fellow, ICMA, or LCCI IFA routes where applicable.
Minimum 7 years post-qualification experience.
Minimum 3 years in a leadership or managerial role, such as CFO, Finance Director, Senior Accountant, Finance Manager, Financial Controller, Internal Audit Manager, Senior Lecturer or Trainer, or Partner or Senior Manager in practice.
Evidence of significant contribution to the profession through leadership, governance, standards, compliance, publications, research, technical writing, education, professional training, service to recognised bodies, or industry achievement.
Two references from senior professionals or Fellows and no disciplinary record.
